Oniikei 101: Hair, Clothing and Accesories

If you read all the posts, you already know the meaning of Oniikei and some attributes of this trend.

You know you must wear black and light brown as main colors, but you are not limited to only those ones. You need to use leather boots, silver accesories and miscellaneous items, sunglasses, suits and down jackets are used sometimes. And your main interest is to look cool, young and pretty.

But there are 3 main features in which we need focus, as they create from Oniikei a beautiful style.

HAIR

This is one of the most important and difficult features.

Hair it's always important in fashion. Nobody will try to flirt with you if you have horrible hair and, for Oniikei style, if you take care of your hair after you get correct styling and color, it will look really cool and beautiful. Actually, everybody will want to touch it as it will be always amazing and gorgeous.

So what makes Oniikei style so cool that no one at my local barber shop can do?

To get Oniikei style hair, you need to get your hair cut with a technique called "WOLF HAIR STYLE".

If you don't have "wolf hair", you will never be an Oniikei. That's why this is big deal.

We will talk here about what is it, cause if you don't leave in Japan, it will be difficult to explain this idea to your stylist. Later we will have a guide to get the haircut done and more details. Don't rush. We are just getting a basic idea of Oniikei hair here.

The Wolf Hair Style became popular in Japan in 2006 and young people use it nowadays not only in Japan but also in many other Asian countries. From now on, we will call it WolfKei as it's easier this way.

WolfKei has some important features itself:

-Volume at the top of the hair
-Asymmetric cut (left side and right side are different in lenght)
-Soft Mohawk (hair is a little bit spiky)
-Wolf Layers (haircut style technique which will be described later during a WOLF STYLE HAIRCUT Post)

The top of the hair is short and the following layers are longer. This cut comes from the "high layer genre" and it's called wolf style because the top portion of the hair stands like the mane of a wolf.

It's not weird to go to your stylist and ask for a particular style if have pictures of wolf style haircuts.

Because the "styling" (or "combing", as regular people say) depends on how the haircut is done, be sure to get the haircut that goes with the style you want. Again, we will talk more about this during the WOLF STYLE HAIRCUT Post.

Just to finish talking about the hair style, if you live in Japan, sure it's ok. But because I guess you are not, you may think "ok, I get this cool haircut, and then I have to comb it so I can hide the asymmetric and weird style when I go to work?!" and the answer is "It depends on which Wolf Style you want".

There are plenty and for many type of life styles. Lenght and styling will be different for each Wolf Hair Style, so don't worry, we will get it right later, when the WOLF STYLE HAIRCUT Post comes.

CLOTHES

The Oniikei Style has a girly style from the Oneekei (same style but for women).

While Oneekei is more like a sports trend, Oniikei Style has a matureness air with expensive name brand clothes and touch of rock fashion through tight pants, tank tops with a wide opening neck and pointed leather shoes, building a cool mature adult look.

Because this is the main idea, Oniikei people use high-end clothes, but there are also some Japanese brands that are a cheaper than European ones.

Key Brands for Oniikei are:

-from Europe
Dolce & Gabbana
Dior Homme
DSQUARED2

-from Japan
Vanquish
Jack Rose
Glad News
Buffalo Bobs
GRZ&M
Growth
Black Baccara
Diavlo
La Gate
Fuga
Gennaro

Don't worry if you are not millionaire enough to buy Dolce & Gabbana, later on a Clothes Special Post I will tell you how to get these clothes at cheaper prices or how to get Japanese Imports if you want to be a real Oniikei.

ACCESORIES

Finally, we get to the accesories, another main feature of the Oniikei style.

If you want to become an Oniikei, you will need to complete your outfits with some accesories. This can be domestic accesories (bought at your country if are Oniikei stylish accesories) or high-end brand accesories.

The accesories you need to wear to be a Oniikei are sunglasses, steel chains, rings and belts.

Now, here we have some notes for each of them:

-Rings: Big metal rings.

-Belts: Ethnic leather belts covered in metal studs or gaudy metal ornaments.

-Chains: Steel chains connect pants to shirts and wallets to belt loops.

-Sunglasses: Aviator sunglasses are Oniikei style.

Another option for Oniikei is using caps, but when you do it, be sure the bil is frayed.
For leather shoes, they must have pre-worn jewerly if possible, and boots are perfect. Pointy shoes are the Oniikei style and any other kind of shoes will not become part of it.

And remember, brand new jeans are also frayed for Oniikei style. Don't do it yourself. Get them already frayed.

With all these things being said, then, it's not like "Emo style", right?

Next post is a really important one. It's a complete tutorial about hair and how to get it done right. It has every single characteristic from the Oniikei style, so you can't fail mext time you go to cut your hair.
