So you have decided to be an Oniikei...

Our first question would be "What is an Oniikei?"

We will explain it now. Either you check out some Web sites or Wikipedia, you will get almost the same information. The problem is, we don't have enough information!

So, we will talk about the meaning of the words and a main definition, so at least, if you are asked about your trend, people actually get to know what is it and not get the "oh, it's an Emo style" idea.

"Onii" comes from "Oniisan", word which means "Older brother", so we should take it like same meaning. "Kei" means "type", like in Visual Kei.

Then, technically, you want to be an "older brother type" guy. Lol. (This is cool, don't worry.)

Oniikei is a street fashion trend that started in Japan which combines two styles: "SEXY MODE" style and "CASUAL" style.

"Sexy Mode": It refers to this girly style in which you use long hair and tank tops, but you are going to wear them like a sexy guy and not like "look at my hair! I'm like Robert Smith!" and "Hey, now I'm using underwear shirts as tank tops". Robert Smith is cool, but it's not what we want to do with Oniikei.

"Casual Mode": This means to wear clothes like a regular guy would do, you know, jeans and shirts. But what makes a difference between regular Casual style and the Oniikei style, is that Oniikei people wants Casual, but WILD, so the Oniikei will have special features and trademarks to make it wild and cool.

These two styles are what makes a big difference between this:

And this:

I think this is enough to get a basic idea about Oniikei. Check out the next post in which I will start explaining about the main characteristics of the style and how to build it up!
